Double Murder Suspect Talks of Zombies, Secret Doors and Saving Children After Arrest
Ronald James Blowers, 25, was charged in the Dec. 3 double murder of Mable and Wayne Wells.
IVY BEND, Mo. — Gory details have emerged in the deaths of an elderly couple from Ivy Bend, Mo. Police arrested Ronald James Blowers, 25, hours after 73-year-old Mable ‘Mae’ Wells and her 82-year-old husband Wayne were found dead in their home on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Police said when they first confronted Blowers in his driveway, he brandished a knife and began stabbing himself saying, “I didn’t mean to do it.” Police said he then ran away and led officers on a “lengthy foot pursuit” and continued to stab himself in the neck and stomach. Police said he spontaneously denied killing “those” people. His father told authorities he was high on meth at the time of his arrest. After he was in police custody, Blowers was transported to an area hospital.
On Thursday, Dec. 6, investigators questioned Blowers at police headquarters. According to the probable cause, Blowers admitted to using a pipe, knife and screwdriver to kill Mable and Wayne Wells. Initially, police thought the couple had been shot to death. An autopsy later revealed the couple died from blunt force trauma.
During questioning, Blowers told investigators, “I was looking for the secret door, and I was trying to save some children from the zombies.”
The community where the Wells lived was shocked to hear of their deaths. At Gem Realty, where Mable Wells worked as a sales agent for the last six years, her longtime friend, Charlotte Gaden, said she was a caring person who loved her church.
“She was also a member of the Booster Club and she helped with the annual Ivy Bend Festival Parade,” she said in an interview with FOX 4′s Robert Townsend on Wednesday. “Anybody who needed something, Mae was always willing to help. And Wayne was the sweetest person you’d ever want to meet.”
Blowers is being held in the Morgan County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $1,000,000 bond.
