Service Friday for Two Police Officers Gunned Down in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. — The two police officers killed Sunday, Dec. 16th, at a Topeka, Kan., grocery store will lie in state Friday and friends are welcome to come honor them and mourn with their family.
The service will be at the Kansas Expocentre near 17th St. and Topeka Blvd, from 4-7 p.m.
David Gogian, 50, a supervisor with the department, and Jeff Atherly, 29, an officer, were both shot when they responded to a ‘suspicious vehicle’ call Sunday evening. Both officers later died at the hospital. The suspect, David Edward Tiscareno, 22, was shot by police during an early Monday morning standoff. Tiscareno also died from his injuries.
Members of the Patriot Guard plan to provide a flag line at the Expocentre, according to the Topeka Capital Journal. Guards will be posted overnight Friday until their funeral services on Saturday. Gogian’s service is 10 a.m. on Saturday; Atherly’s service will be at 2 p.m.
Both the men will be buried at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been set up for both David Gogian and Jeff Atherly. To donate, send a check payable to the Topeka Police Credit Union, 320 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, Kan., 66603.
