KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A young father gunned down on New Year's Eve at an apartment complex, is remembered at a vigil Saturday.

A spokesperson for the police department told Fox 4 a suspect has not been identified in this case and no one is in custody.

But the victim's wife believes someone knows something.  Rosa Perry wants them to speak up.

She is among the many in a group lighting candles in the dark of the night at the Riverview Gardens Apartments.  It is for 28-year-old Ottis Perry Junior.  The group let 28 balloons float into the night sky to remember Perry's 28 years of life.

"They took a father from my kids.  They took a husband from me.  They took a brother from his brothers and sisters, they took a son from his mom and dad, they took a friend they took a cousin, they took a nephew," Rosa Perry said.

She walked the path her husband took the day he died with family and friends holding her.  They ended where his body was found.  She tells the crowd her husband had the gift of a beautiful smile.

"He would cheer you up on your worst day. He would make you smile, and they robbed us from that," she said.

Perry leaves behind three children.  They are 7, 8 and 9-years-old.  The oldest daughter, Jendaya, grips her mother tight and talks about what a great dad her father was.

"He called me his little girl and he'd always make sure our room was clean," she said.

Police said Perry was shot at the apartments on E. Missouri near Woodland on Dec. 31.

But no one is sitting in jail for this crime yet. That, is what Perry's wife hopes will change.

"My kids need this, my kids need this.  Somebody knows something and I want them to come forward with it," she pleaded.

Perry's wife said she won't stop until her husband's killer is caught.

"They may have silenced his voice that day, but they're not going to silence mine.  He rings out in me and they're not going to silence that," she said.

Relatives admit Perry had a past juvenile record but that he recently started turning his life around.
