OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A 58 acre mixed-use project, that will include retail, luxury apartments and a museum, has sealed a financing deal for $160 million for the first phase of its development.

Prairiefire is localled between Nall and Lamar avenues on the south side of 135th Street in Overland Park.

Construction is set to begin immediately.

One of the signature attractions of the new development will be the Museum of Prairiefire — hosting traveling exhibitions through a collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Prairiefire will also feature a hiking and biking trail that winds through wetlands and around the entire development, developers said.

In addition to the museum, which is being built in the first phase, there will be 207,000 square feet of retail space and 300 luxury apartments, a news release said.

Outdoor retailer REI and grocer The Fresh Market are expected to open in October. Other venues include Rock & Brews, Wasabi Sushi Bar, Pinstripes Bowling/Bocce/Bistro, CoCoBolos and Cinetopia, with planned openings in spring 2014.
