KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City, Missouri, man was found guilty in a Jackson County courtroom on Thursday of raping a 71-year-old woman in her home in 2011.
Ramone Winters, 31, was found guilty of 12 counts of rape, sodomy and kidnapping in connection to the December 15, 2011, attack on the woman in her apartment in the 3200 block of East 10th Street.
According to Kansas City Missouri Police, the woman had fallen asleep in her living room in the apartment. When she awoke around 7:30 p.m. to get a glass of water, police say that she discovered a strange man in her kitchen who threatened her before repeatedly raping and sodomizing her over the course of the next four hours.
The woman was taken to an area hospital where she received treatment for internal injuries. Police say that Winters took pictures of the victim during the attack.
Winters was previously convicted in 2007 of a rape in 2000 of a 77-year-old woman. Prosecutors say that because of his prior convictions, Winters faces a sentence of life without parole as a persistent sexual offender.
Sentencing is set for March 8.
