No. 18 K-State Routs Texas 83-57

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Snapping a two-game losing streak, the 18th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats throttled the Texas Longhorns 83-57 on Wednesday night at Bramlage Coliseum.

Kansas State (16-4, 5-2 Big 12) went on an 18-4 run to take a 31-13 lead with 3:57 to play in the first half. The Wildcats took a 20-point lead on a tip shot by Omari Lawrence with :51 seconds play, and led 38-19 at halftime.

The Wildcats scored 19 points off 12 Texas turnovers in the first half, and got 20 points from their bench. The bench finished the night with 45 total points. Lawrence scored 10 points and 6 rebounds off the bench in the first half.

Texas (9-11, 1-6 Big 12) shot 26% in the first half, but that number improved as the Longhorns tried to fight their way back in the second half. The Longhorns narrowed the gap to 41-28 on a 3-pointer by Ioannis Papapetrou with 17:44 to play, but the run didn’t last long. A 3-pointer by Will Spradling extended the Cats’ lead to 53-33 with 13:03 to play.

K-State kept the hammer down the rest of the way. Their largest lead was 28 points. Thomas Gipson led all scorers with 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Angel Rodriguez added 11 points and eight assists. KSU shot 48% from the field, and 40% from 3-point range.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Longhorns 34-28. The Longhorns shot 41% from the field, and 22% from beyond the arc. Sheldon McClellan led the Horns with 15 points and four rebounds. Jaylen Bond added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

K-State hits the road to take on the Oklahoma Sooners at Llyod Noble Center on Saturday night.
