MISSION, Kan. -- Firefighters responded Friday night at about 8:30 to a fireplace flue fire at the Wellington Apartments in Mission.

Fire crews called out a second alarm to fight the blaze at the building at 4906 Broadmoor.

They say the fire started in the downstairs apartment flue and spread to the upstairs apartment.

Three apartment units were damage and six adults and two kids were being helped by Red Cross.

Smoke detectors in the upstairs apartments alerted people to the fire.
