Belton Boy Scouts back to square one after break-in

BELTON, Mo. – Boy Scout Troop 210 in Belton was still trying to get over a break-in they had a year-and-a-half ago, when once again thieves targeted their supplies. Now, their fundraising efforts are back at square one.

Cub Master Doug Horne was upset when he found out that once again Troop 210 was targeted by thieves, so was Scout Master Terry Miller.

“Once we started inventorying and realizing more and more was gone, it was pretty devastating,” Miller said.

On Jan. 14, members of the troop found out someone broke into their sheds.

Police say more than a thousand dollars worth of supplies, including sleeping bags, tarps, and military trunks with supplies. Cub scouts, boy scouts and their families did countless hours of fundraising for the supplies.

“We’ve sold Christmas trees, we did trash bag sales, candy at Christmas and nuts, and a big seller is our popcorn,” Horne explained.

Still recovering from a previous break-in, they know more fundraising is in store.

“It’ll take a few more years to get it, to get back to where we was, but we will.  We’ll get there,” Horne said.

These scouts and cubs are left wondering, why would anyone steal from them?  They could have just asked.

“We would do our best to help them. I mean we would do anything if they needed it,” said Ryan Parker.

Now they hope for a little kindness instead.

“Please give us back our stuff,” pleads ten year-old Ian McCann.

Belton Police say they don’t have any suspects yet in the case.  When the person or people responsible are found, police say they could face felony charges.
