Joe’s WX Blog: Warmth & severe thoughts

This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated.

I’m not really sure that I can add a lot to yesterday’s thoughts at this point and I may keep this blog relatively short since I’m taking the next couple of days off.

Warmth…yup and finally. Temperatures today should approach 70° with relatively light winds, just an ideal day. We should stay in the 70s on Saturday and potentially Sunday-Tuesday as well. Those days are going to be a little trickier because of the potential of clouds and periods of rain/storms.

Rain: Yes but still so many questions about when. My feelings are at least some storm will be in the region later Sunday into Sunday night and then again on Monday AM. My feelings are, at this point, the KC Royals home opener will be OK. Temperatures in the 60s for 1st pitch with a bit of humidity as well. For several days the models were suggesting a front would hang to the south and then retreat towards N MO, in doing so creating storms as it did so…now the warm front is to the north of here and the heaviest better chances are north of KC as well into Monday night. We’ll see about that. No point in posting rainfall graphics today because confidence in any model solution is low.

Rain Amounts: VERY undecided, some model trends have had decreasing amounts over the last 24 hours or so, while others are still cranking out in excess of 1″ of rain.

Severe threat: There should be severe weather in the Plains, but how much is directly on slate for KC is undetermined. Here is the SPC approach to things…seems to be targeting us on Tuesday.

Here is a look at the EURO map for 7PM Tuesday, showing the apprx. area for severe weather potential. This is really just guess at this point because the set-up will vary heading into the evening.

So obviously a lot of questions that we will figure out but probably not until the weekend and early next week. The good news is that it does look like it will be on the mild side through Tuesday before colder air moves in later in the week. Actually sort of typical for April really.

Have a great day. I “may” take a blog day off tomorrow depending on my activities. We’ll see about that. It would be rare for sure.
