Police seek help locating burglary suspect shot in shoulder
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Lee’s Summit Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating Shannon L. Walz, 37, of Kansas City, Mo.
Walz was charged with one count of first-degree burglary on March 28 for a home burglary that occurred in Lee’s Summit on March 5.
Police said just after midnight on March 5, officers were called to an apartment complex located in the 600 block of SE M-291 Highway. The victim told police that he was awakened by his dog barking and after retrieving a handgun he observed a male standing in his bedroom doorway holding a weapon. The victim stated that he fired two shots at the suspect who fled from the apartment.
During the course of the investigation, information was obtained that the suspect was seeking treatment at a hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Detectives with the Lee’s Summit Police Department responded to the hospital and interviewed the man who said he was robbed while in Kansas City. A bullet was recovered from the man’s shoulder and after a laboratory examination; the bullet was matched back to the victim’s handgun.
Walz is described as a 6’0 tall and 180 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Walz is considered dangerous. Police are asking the public that if Walz is located to not approach him but to call 911.
