KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Thieves rammed a stolen mini-van into the side of a pharmacy on the city's old northeast side early this morning, getting away with undisclosed items.
Spalitto's Pharmacy is a third generation business now run by Pete Spalitto. Spalitto said surveillance video caught two men, wearing hoodies, in the store. Spalitto got an alarm on his home system just before three this morning but because of damage to the server, it wasn't clear what had happened.
Police didn't want too much information released about the suspects because it could hinder the investigation. Spalitto said they haven't had any problems in 15 years at Independence and Monroe, but it does bring back memories of a robbery in 1969 in which his grandfather was killed.
"I'm really happy nobody was hurt," Spalitto said. "My son works with me now. He's 21 years old. My wife's a pharmacist too; she comes in. My family is home safe. It's just things that can be replaced, so we're happy, and we'll try to take care of our customers tomorrow the best we can."
The main computer server was damaged in the robbery and since much of the dispensing is robotic, it could cause some delays.
Police are looking for two black men wearing hoodies.
