ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (KTLA) -- Medical technology continues to evolve. Every advancement is helping patients recover faster and have less issues.
This tech report takes a look inside a very high tech children's hospital.
"Our entire premise was to build the safest children's hospital in the country," explained Dr. Jim Cappon, director of the Children's Hospital of Orange County, also known as CHOC.
CHOC is one of the most high tech facilities in the nation.
"Connectivity helps us save time, make decisions better and make them faster.
And all of that is good for the child undergoing surgery," said Dr. David Gibbs.
Every device in the hospital talks to each other. Information is accessible almost anywhere.
Blood, medications and all lab work are bar coded. A wall of knowlegde provides doctors with the big picture on each patient.
"The whole idea is to provide as much information as possible at the right time in the right way," Gibbs said.
A system known as Studio 3 digitally records and stories video of every surgery. CHOC is the third hospital in the nation to have it.
The videos makes it easier for doctors to document their cases. It's just one more example of how technology can prevent errors and get the littlest patients back on their feet faster.
