Kan. teens charged in fatal ATV accident

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — Charges were filed Friday in the district court of Miami County, Kan., in connection to a deadly ATV accident that killed a 17-year-old boy in November.

William Mahaffy Sutherland, 18, of Overland Park, has been charged with aggravated endangering a child and unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol.

Taylor M. Sheets, 18, of Prairie Village, has been charged with involuntary manslaugher-DUI.

Tyler Rathbun died on Nov. 25 after an ATV, that had four juveniles on it, rolled in a field.

Sutherland has a bond set at $10,000. Sheets bond is set at $15,000.

Olathe police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office helped the Miami County Sheriff’s Office in the months-long investigation.
