KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A terrier puppy who survived inside a locked car on a tow lot for about a month should be ready for adoption in 2 to 3 weeks, after she gains some weight.
Rescuers have named her "Kia."
She came in to the K.C. Pet Project on Monday from animal control.
Someone spotted her in the front window of a car that had been in the tow lot for about a month. The windows were rolled up and the car was locked. A window had to be broken to get to her.
"There was trash in the car. It looked like she'd been surviving off McDonalds trash that was in the car," said Teresa Johnson, Kansas City Pet Project C.E.O.
Johnson estimates that Kia is about 12 weeks old. She said Kia was dehydrated and is emaciated. She needs to gain some weight before she will be ready for adoption.
"I'm not sure how the car came to be on the tow lot and how someone didn't notice this long," Johnson said.
