KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The popular Twitter account @KUBoobs has been asked by the University of Kansas to stop selling items with the school’s logo on it.

“KU Boobs has been ordered to cease and desist by the University of Kansas by June 12, 2013,” the Twitter account tweeted Monday evening.

The announcement was made on Twitter around 8 p.m. The group also began a #SaveKUBoobs hashtag.

In addition to photos of women’s chests, the group also sells KU wristbands, and according to to the university, that’s where the problem lies.

“We’re not trying to shut @KUBoobs down. It’s one thing to have a Twitter account. It’s another thing to sell items with ‘KU’ on it, which is what they’re doing,” said Jim Marchiony, Associate Director of Public Affairs with KU Athletics. “That’s our federal trademark, which we always have to protect.”

The Twitter account began after a woman  took a photo of herself in a KU T-shirt, tweeting it with #KUboobs. It caught on like wildfire and the woman said she’d like to use the attention to bring awareness to breast cancer, according to a previous FOX 4 report.

FOX 4 reached out to the Twitter account and is awaiting a response.
