RICHMOND, Mo. -- As the crops start to grow,  the Haines Farm in Richmond, Mo., is preparing for customers to come and buy their produce, right off the vine.

The You Pick 'Em trend, which includes several farms in the area, capitalizes on people's desire for farm fresh goods. So fresh, customers get out in the fields and select their own fruits and veggies.

Farm owner Doug Haines grows potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions and herbs on his land in the summer. In the fall, he plants grapes and peaches.

He said he farms organically because he is wary of the chemicals larger companies use in their products.

"I don't want it in my body, and I think most people are the same way," he said.
