Lawrence, Columbia make ‘Smartest City’ list
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new list from Lumosity ranks the top 100 smartest cities in America and two nearby college towns have made the cut.
Just don’t shoot the messenger, Tiger fans.
Lawrence, Kan., was ranked number 9 and Columbia, Mo., ranked 41.
The study used data from more than 3 million people in the U.S. who played several Lumosity brain games. Most of the towns that made the list are considered “college towns.”
“One of the most interesting findings from this analysis is that most of the top metro areas contain major research universities, suggesting that education is an important predictor of cognitive performance,” said Lumosity data scientist Daniel Sternberg.
Rounding out the top five:
1. Ithaca, NY
2. State College, PA
3. Lafayette-West Lafayette, IN
4. Iowa City, IA
5. Ames, IA
