Royals fall 1-4 to Oakland, finish home stand with even record
Kansas City, Mo. – It wasn’t the worst home stand of the season, but it certainly wasn’t the best either. The Kansas City Royals lost 10-4 to the Oakland A’s on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium, ending their brief holiday weekend homestand with a 3 – 3 record.
The A’s took the first game and last game of the series with the Royals, and also finished their season series with a 5-1 record against Kansas City.
Royals starting pitcher Luis Mendoza took the loss, and never made it out of the second inning on Sunday, as the A’s scored 5 runs in the second inning and were never really threatened. Because the division leading Detroit Tigers lost at Cleveland on Sunday, the Royals remain 6 games back in the standings in the American League Central.
With one week left before the MLB All-Star break, the Royals open a 4-game series in New York against the Yankees on Monday, then travel to Cleveland for 3 games against the Indians to close out the week.
