SHAWNEE, Kan. — Police are investigating after 3,000 feet of copper wire worth about $9,000 was stolen from the City of Shawnee, Kan. Police believe the theft took place late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Most of the copper wire ran underground, going from one utility pole to another, providing power to street lights. The area affected stretches from the 21900 block to the 22400 block of Midland Drive.

Shawnee Public Information Officer Bill Hisle said it is one of the largest thefts the Shawnee Police Department has seen.
