City crews demolish wrong home
FORT WORTH — A major oops by demolition crews with the city of Fort Worth, Tex., after they demolished the wrong home.
“We came around Silver Creek looking for the lot and my wife said, David… I think the house is gone.,” David Underwood told KDFW-TV. “We looked up there and sure enough, it’s gone!”
A neighbor told the TV station it was actually a nearby home that was set to be demolished.
The home, which was nearly vacant, still had personal items and antiques from Underwood’s late grandmother. The NY Daily News reported the couple planned to spruce up the home and move into it.
The city confirmed the blunder to KDFW-TV and released a statement:
“On July 12, 2013, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive. The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Dr. The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Drive.”
The NY Daily News reports the city of Fort Worth has met with Underwoods to discuss the accident and a plan for compensating them.
