Dad arrested after boy, 2, found wandering in street and little brother left alone
OTTAWA, Kan. — The father of a child found wandering a city street in Ottawa has been arrested for endangering a child.
The father is accused of leaving the two-year old boy and his six-month-old brother home alone on Wednesday.
The older boy was found in the street at 5th and Mulberry.
Adam Weingartner of Ottawa Police Department said the father claims he thought his roommate was watching the boys. However, the roommate told police that the father didn’t inform the roommate that he had left.
Weingartner credited alert neighbors and social media for helping to locate the child’s father, who police say didn’t answer when they tried to call him.
“Thanks for the retweets!” the Ottawa Police Department tweeted. “We’ve found the parent(s). Thanks to alert citizens and social media success again!”
Police said the boys’ father and mother do not live together.
Charges have not yet been filed against the father, but he is in police custody, being held for two counts of endangering a child.
