KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A dog found beaten and near death in a local dumpster is doing better on Monday night. KC Pet Project sent Ace, a two-year-old purebred Shih Tzu, to a foster home on Monday afternoon.

FOX 4 first brought you this story on Friday night. Ace was found inside a pet carrier in a dumpster near the African-Centered College Prepatory Academy by construction workers.

A veterinarian who examined him is hopeful for a full recovery. Ace had a skull fracture and had to be put on oxygen to keep his brain swelling down.

“When he came in he was very still. His injury to his head was causing him to just… he was just very, very still when he got here,” Tori Fugate, Manager of Marketing and Development with the KC Pet Project said Friday night.

KC Pet Project said in a Facebook post that Ace has been opening his eyes and got to leave to the emergency vet hospital in his move to a foster home. If you want to contribute to Ace's recovery, follow this link to the KC Pet Project's website.
