LAWRENCE, Kan. — The nine-time defending Big 12 Champion Kansas Jayhawks will play another challenging schedule in 2013-14. The Jayhawks could potentially face 15 teams that played in the postseason a year ago.
KU will tip-off the regular season November 8 at home against. Louisiana-Monroe. The non-conference slate features contests against Duke in Chicago, Wake Forest at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas and road games at Colorado and Florida. KU will play New Mexico at Sprint Center on December 14. The Jayhawks warp up the non-conference with home games against Georgetown and San Diego State.
KU will then open conference play at Oklahoma on Jan. 8 on ESPN. For the eighth-consecutive year, Kansas will be featured in four contests on ESPN’s Big Monday.
Kansas went 31-6 last season and won its unprecedented ninth-straight Big 12 and NCAA-leading 56th regular-season conference championship. Bill Self brings back 10 letterwinners, but no starters, from the team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season.
Self reloaded with eight newcomers, including the nation’s No. 1 recruit in guard Andrew Wiggins. Together, KU’s class of 2013 comprises the second-ranked recruiting class in the country. KU is ranked as high as fifth in the 2013-14 national preseason polls.
The Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship on March 12-15 will continue to be televised on a variety of ESPN platforms. The Championship will begin for the third-straight year with two first-round games on Wednesday evening, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and title contest in successive days.
