Sailor arrested for allegedly stabbing, killing puppy
Joseph C. Justesen is charged with animal cruelty for a puppy's stabbing.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A 24-year-old Virginia man and Navy sailor was arrested after police found him passed out next to a dead German Shepard/Golden Retriever mix puppy.
Joseph C. Justesen’s roommate was taking care of the dog named Zoey for friends.
On Sunday, police received a call regarding a dead animal at their home.
According to documents, Justeson’s roommate returned and found the 10-month old dog dead in the corner of the living room. There was blood on the floor and couches and a knife was also found on the couch. Justeson was passed out on the floor near the dog.
The owners say Zoey was well-behaved and they don’t understand why Justesen would kill her.
“I did notice a big black bag in the animal control officer’s arms,” said a neighbor who watched what happened. “Shortly after that they brought a gentlemen over here right in front of my house and cuffed him up.”
Justeson is a Petty Officer Third Class, assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln. He enlisted in 2009, according to the Navy. He faces an animal cruelty charge.
