MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State Wildcats scored in a variety of ways, nearly hanging half a hundred points as they beat the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 48-27 on Saturday night. Ty Zimmerman returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown and Tramaine Thompson sprinted 94 yards to score on a kickoff return to aid the scoring effort.

KSU opened a big lead in the third quarter after Jake Waters scored a more traditional rushing touchdown that extended the lead to 34-3. Then the Wildcats seem to let up a bit, the Ragin’ Cajuns had a kickoff return of their own and closed the gap to 41-24 by the end of the third quarter.

But the Wildcats wouldn’t be denied this week. The defense held strong on two drives in the fourth quarter that only produced three points for ULL. The Wildcats were able to pad the lead with another touchdown and melted the final five plus minutes off the clock to even its record at 1-1.

Running back Justin Hubert scored two touchdowns, but he only gained 56 yards rushing for an average of 3.1 yards per rush.  Quarterback Jake Waters was decent going 22/31 for 278 yards but also threw two interceptions.  Receiver Tyler Lockett led wide-outs with eight receptions for 111 yards.

The Wildcats take the University of Massachusetts Minutemen next Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
