KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A once homeless family now has a home for the holidays. Latoya Caldwell and her four children walked into their new home, decked out with a tree and presents on Thursday, thanks to a program called "Constructing Futures."
Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders founded the program five years ago and says it benefits the entire community. Latoya escaped an abusive relationship and until now, she and her children had been homeless since.
"This has been a long time coming. It's been rough. These past couple of years have been really rough for me and my children,” she said.
"Constructing Futures" has given away about one home a year. It's funded through the Jackson County legislature`s housing resources commission.
