KANSAS CITY, Mo. – High paying job openings will soon be posted in the metro as one company lands at KCI’s overhaul base. In it`s heyday, the two million square-foot campus was home to TWA and 6,000 jobs.
Now this base is home to five companies who in total employ 500 people. A Washington state based company called Aviation Technical Services is moving in and will double the number of people who work at this base.
ATS is an airline maintenance company. They are planning to hire 175 people next year and executives say they will grow to 600 employees over the next five years. The average income of people who will be working for ATS is $60,000 and eventually the company says it will have a $30 million annual payroll.
That number is important because the state of Missouri is giving ATS an incentive to open this new facility in Kansas City. For five years, the company will be getting a portion of their payroll back from the state.
“What really sold ATS is that the facility was available and the long history of aviation in Kansas City and the high quality workforce in Kansas City,” David Long, Deputy Director of Aviation at KCI, said.
Long said ATS is planning to hold several jobs fairs in the next few months.
