NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A pair of North Kansas City businesses are being forced from their longtime locations, during a time of the year that's usually good for business. They can no longer serve their customers or clients, because the city says the roof is unsafe.
Caution tape lines the parking lot and walkways for this North Kansas City First Watch restaurant location, as well as a popular salon that's been going strong close to 30 years in this spot.
Looks Avant Garde had roughly a thousand clients who will now have to go elsewhere. Owner Gloria Scott said many of her customers had been going to her for decades.
Scott said she got a call early this month, from the building's owner saying the building was being condemned due to a structural problem with the roof and she had only days to remove her belongings. While Scott's stylists have found other salons to work for, Scott's future is uncertain.
"I've tried to maintain a great business for a long time and it basically got taken away from me in one day," she said.
We reached out to the building's owner, "NT Realty" for comment, but our call was not returned. The city says it inspected this building and found the structural problem, after condemning another of NT Realty's" properties. The building will eventually be demolished but a date hasn't been set yet.
