KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Criminals are targeting businesses on West 39th Street from Bell to Terrace streets. But business owners in the popular Volker entertainment and shopping area are fighting back and sharing surveillance video, hoping to catch the thieves.

Video shows a smash and grab in action. Criminals, casing Fric and Frac on West 39th Street, smash through the front door and steal an All-Terrain Vehicle. A block away, a similar scene unfolds at the Hi-Dive Lounge.

“The patio door was smashed in and they had kind of trashed the place,” Hi-Dive Lounge owner Grant Naugle said.

Naugle’s alarm system was blaring, but didn't stop the thieves from stealing one TV and breaking three others.

"We have a whole glass store front. It's easy for people to see. They know exactly what we have,” he said.

On the same block, Volker Bicycles was targeted. The owner didn’t want to talk on-camera, but showed us the door the thieves kicked open. They stole three "Pinarello" bikes worth $4,000 each.

Naugle believes the thieves work fast, breaking in and fleeing the scene in a matter of minutes, avoiding police.

“If they would have dispatched someone immediately, I still don't think they would have caught them,” he said.

The usually quiet neighborhood has been shaken by the crime spree but Naugle says he still feels safe.

"Everybody is on the same page. Everybody around here looks out for each other,” he said.
