KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man has been accused in federal court of stealing nearly $1,000 from a Bank Midwest branch located in Brookside. A release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states that Casey M. Widman, 58, approached a teller on Monday brandishing a black pistol and asked for a withdrawal of all 50 and 100 dollar bills.

Widman allegedly fled the bank on foot with $838 and then left the area in a blue Ford Taurus with two other passengers according to a witness. A police officer later saw a vehicle that matched the witness description and followed it until it stopped at a gas station.

The three people in the car, including Widman, were initially detained. A search of the vehicle yielded the discovery a pellet pistol and a search of Widman revealed $389 under one of his boot soles.

Authorities took only Widman into custody, the two others have not been formally charged. Widman is currently being held in custody by the Kansas City Police Department, no court dates have been announced.
