KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A local Italian eatery is garnering national attention on the eve of its 60th anniversary. Jasper's Restaurant on 103rd and State Line is one of only four restaurants in the United States to be named to the 2013 Fine Dining Hall of Fame by Nation's Restaurant News.
The restaurant was founded by Leonardo and Jasper Mirabile in 1954. The Mirabile family says the award is a tribute to tradition.
"I think it's really just more of a stamp to say, 'Hey, this restaurant has been around a long time.' We're still doing the same thing," Jasper J. Mirabile Jr. said. "My nephew and I talk about this all the time. We don't change recipes, we don't change anything."
Nations's Restaurant News says Jasper's consistently contributes to the notion of dining as an art form.
"Fine dining has changed so much over the past 15 years. It's not about white table clothes. It's not about a snooty waiter hovering over your table, it's more about the experience itself and that's what we're known for," Mirabile Jr. said.
