FOX 4 Sports: Bruce is back; SKC signs Myers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The training seasons for both MLB and MLS are either in progress or soon to be in progress. Two Kansas City teams continued to do off the field work on Thursday.
BRUCE CHEN IS BACK
The Royals have re-signed veteran pitcher Bruce Chen to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2015. The 36-year-old lefty had one of his best seasons for the Royals in 2013. Chen started the season as a long-reliever out of the bullpen before moving into the starting rotation in the second half.
He was 9-4 with a 3.27 ERA with 15 starts. Chen figures to join the competition for the last two spots in the starting rotation. James Shields, Jason Vargas and Jeremy Guthrie are locks for the first three spots. Chen, Danny Duffy, Yordano Ventura, Luke Hochevar, Wade Davis, Brad Penny and a few others will compete for the two spots on the back-end of the rotation.
SPORTING KC SIGNS MYERS
Sporting Kansas City defender Chance Myers signed a new contract with the club on Thursday and arrived in Tucson, Ariz. to join the team for the preseason. Myers enters his seventh season with the club and is the second-longest tenured player on the roster.
“Re-signing Chance was an important goal of ours in the off-season,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said. “We’re looking forward to him entering training camp and another season with our team because he’s been one of the core members of this group. We hope to continue the consistency that we’ve had over that time.”
