LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. -- It’s hard to believe but high school prom time just a few weeks away.
That's why volunteers at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit are tagging dresses, pulling off plastic, and hooking straps onto hangers.
It's all part of the 'prom boutique' which is a collection of new and used donated dresses.
Unlike department stores or designer shops, teens from across the region can shop at the boutique for free in just a couple weeks.
This year is the eleventh year the church has worked on this mission project, and it’s one the ladies at the church say never gets old.
“They`ll sometimes come up to you and say these dresses don`t have a price tag on them, how much is it? And when we say, would free be okay, many times, they can`t believe it,” said Judy Holmes, volunteer at Prom Boutique.
“And then they come out of the dressing room, there are mirrors there for them to look at themselves, plus for us to look at them, it`s just breath taking, also because there are so many girls doing this, and they`re so excited,” said Holmes.
The church plans to have nearly 3,000 dresses to give away. The prom boutique starts March 25, and again, the dresses are free.
