SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri judge says prosecutors don’t have to provide evidence before the preliminary hearing for a 46-year-old man accused of killing 10-year-old Hailey Owens of Springfield.

Craig Michael Wood faces first-degree murder charges in the Feb. 18 death of Hailey Owens, who was killed after being abducted in her neighborhood. Wood, a middle-school football coach, attended the hearing Wednesday in Greene County court. Wood is being held without bond.

Wood’s appearance has changed since his arrest. He now has a buzz cut and is clean-shaven. The judge ruled that Wood will be able to appear in court in street clothes rather than a prison jumpsuit. He also decided that Wood’s shackles should not be visible in court.

The Springfield News-Leader reports Judge Mark Powell on Wednesday overruled a defense motion to have the prosecution produce evidence before Wood's preliminary hearing, which has been rescheduled for April 24.

The judge also said he would take under advisement an objection by Wood's public defender to having television cameras in the courtroom for future hearings on the case.

The fact this sick twisted pervert even gets a day in court with a defending lawyer. As well as tax payers money to feed and house him in the jail.Defense has the nerve as well to ask prosecutors to submit evidence at the first hearing is proposturus! Than to object to cameras in the court room.He deserves to have his filthy face plastered across the nation! The fact they found that precious little girl shot in the head and stuffed in plastic containers in his house, and he still gets to plead not guilty. He still gets a lawyer!I If he gets the death sentance, will it take twenty years plus before he is put to death?Living off the expense of tax payers.Getting to watch TV,write a book about his past and how its really not his fault he brutally murdered a little girl.If we can’t get justice in this case. How can any of us even think theirs any justice for our children or protection from all the child predators out their lurking in our children’s schools, churches, and homes.Publicly punish these perverts and EXPOSE them!! That scares them far more then killing them!! Make all child predators have to be on a permanent public list with full blown pictures of their filthy faces! We are losing the war on child molesters/ child porn. It’s pathetic!!
