Jayhawks to lose Naadir Tharpe
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Kansas confirms point guard Naadir Tharpe will not be on the season roster, planning to transfer out of Kansas to another university.
The report was being circulated all around social media on Thursday, attributed to a Twitter message from ESPN.com writer Jeff Goodman.
Then, early Thursday afternoon, Self confirmed that Tharpe is no longer a member of the team.
Self explained the reason was primarily due to Thorpe’s family. Thorpe has a young daughter who was born during his freshman year of college. He’s now a junior.
“Due to extenuating circumstances within my personal life, I will no longer be attending the University of Kansas,” Tharpe said. “My daughter has current medical issues that require weekly visits to her physician, as well as with a specialist. At this juncture, I feel it is best to be closer to home where I can assist and support in any way necessary.”
Tharpe was publicly reprimanded by Self this spring after a photo of him was shared on social media. He was shirtless and the female he was with was partially nude.
Self said at the time that he was ‘extremely disappointed’ in Sharpe’s judgment. about Tharpe’s future plans.
