ROCKFORD, Ohio — Delores Dennison didn’t get the opportunity to go to her high school prom. FOX News reports that Delores’ family when she was a teenager only had enough money to get by and prom was not a necessity. Fast forward many years later, and her great-grandson, Austin Dennison, stepped up and asked the 89-year-old to accompany him Parkway High School’s prom.
Surprised by the proposal, Delores at first asked Austin if he was certain of his decision.
“He was so sweet and adamant about it. I asked him, ‘But are you sure that you wouldn’t like to take one of the young ladies who could get out there and do everything with you?’ He said, ‘No, I want you,'” Delores told FOX News’ Todd Starnes.
When the big night came, Austin played Delores a special song and took her out for dinner at one her favorite places, Bob Evans. Afterwards, it was time for the main event.
“We got a standing ovation. But we had to cut across the dance floor because she didn’t have any energy,” Austin told FOX News.
For Delores, it was an experience many years in the making, and one she’ll never forget.
“It was wonderful and I just loved all the girls in their fancy gowns and the gentleman in their tuxedos. It was quite a night. Everyone got an A+,” Delores told FOX News.
