HOUSTON — Cameras were rolling as a man drove a car into a crowd of people at a crime scene in Houston Wednesday.
KHOU-TV reported that nearly 100 people were diving for safety and running from the path of the speeding car.
According to the fiance of the car's driver, it started when someone tossed a bicycle at their car, which she says would have hit her in the face. She said that provoked her boyfriend to race his car into the crowd. When he bailed out of the vehicle, she had to grab the wheel.
"This ain't nothing but Satan's playground," she said. "He was urged on. They threw a bicycle. If he wouldn't have turned, the bike would have hit me in my face. He turned the car so that it would hit the hood, the trunk of the car and that's when the other dude came around and punched him in the face and that's when the car went up on the middle of the median right there."
Police say hours earlier the driver's son shot and killed another man, and that rising tensions between the suspect's family and the victim's family led to the chaos.
People were already gathered in the neighborhood after the earlier fight had escalated to the deadly shooting.
"People pop off for anything nowadays," said one woman in the crowd.
No one was injured in the car incident, but the driver has been charged with aggravated assault.
Meanwhile, according to KTRK-TV, witnesses say the alleged shooter jumped a fence and got away.
