INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — An early morning fire destroyed a playground at Bundschu Park in Independence. The ruinous blaze left nearby families with many questions.
For Izabella and Jacob Scott, there’s a special place in their heart for this playground. That’s why the siblings took a little extra time out of their day to remember what was.
“I used to go to the park with my tiny little brothers and hang out with friends and have so much fun,” said Izabella.
“We used to come here every day and play games. It’s just terrible to know someone burned it down,” added Jacob.
Independence police said just before 1 a.m., the park was set on fire. It’s been turned over to the fire department’s arson division where an investigation is ongoing.
“I just can’t believe that someone did it,” Jacob said.
Little is known right now, but the destruction has put Izabella on guard.
“I cannot trust this park. I will never go to this park ever again until I know that whoever has done this has been taken into custody and has been punished for what they’ve done,” Izabella said.
The siblings hope to gather support from the neighborhood and rebuild.
“Well, are you going to do something about it?” Jacob asked.
“Yes I am,” Izabella affirmed.
