KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 22-year-old man is charged in Platte County with two counts of assault and two counts of armed criminal action after police say he ran into three people with his car during an argument Sunday night at the Englewood Apartments, 5400 block of NW Waukomis Dr.
Witnesses tell FOX 4 that he was fighting with another man when the driver jumped into his car and stepped on the gas, hitting three people.
Police say the driver was Jeffrey Ferrell, 22.
One of the victims was a 14-year-old boy named Camryn. He was coming home at about 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening after playing basketball when he passed two men fighting in front of his apartment building.
"The guy who got beat up drove away in his car, came back, and hit three people, and one of them was me," said Camryn.
Chrystal Nelson, Camryn's mother, said she was in her house watching television when someone started banging on her door and told her Camryn was hit.
"I went outside and found him lying on the ground in blood," she said.
Camryn suffered a concussion, and required 17 stitches to close the gash in his head. He also has a fractured leg and torn ligaments in his knee, his mother said.
FOX 4's Monica Evans spoke to a woman who said she's Ferrell's girlfriend. She says they have a child together and she does not believe Ferrell would intentionally try to hurt anyone.
"He got jumped. He told me he got scared," said Sabrina Stiles. "He got in the car and when he drove off they were in front of him."
"He should not have done this. He's a bad man for doing this," said Camryn.
