KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the VA scandal now spreads across 19 states, the VFW or Veterans of Foreign Wars, fights back for veterans by holding their own town hall meetings to look for solutions. As the largest organization working for active duty veterans and their families, the VFW has also set up an 800 number for veterans.
The Adjutant General of the VFW, John Hamilton, spoke to President Obama last year concerning the VA backlogs and other issues and he was assured the president would fix the problems.
Hamilton says veterans hospitals have excellent doctors and staff. He says the real issue is Congress and its allocation of resources.
“It really time that America understands less than 1 percent keeps us free,” Hamilton said. “They put our chest between us and the bad guys and it’s time for the 99 percent to say enough, take care of our heroes, do the right thing.”
The VFW wants to hear from veterans about their experiences both negative and positive by calling 1-800-VFW-1899.
