KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mired in a four-game losing streak and now sitting four games below .500 as they open a series in Toronto, the Kansas City Royals have shuffled their major league coaching staff.

Dale Sveum will now serve of the Royals’ hitting coach, Pedro Grifol will become the Royals’ catching instructor and Mike Jirschele will become the team’s third base coach.

Sveum was the hitting instructor for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2009-11, helping the Brewers reach the NLCS in 2011. Under Sveum, the Brewers ranked in the top three in the N.L. in homers in each of his three seasons as hitting coach, including leading the N.L. with 185 homeruns in 2011.
