OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The man whose body was discovered in a state of extreme decomposition on Sunday, June 8, in the 7900 block of W. 75th St, died from multiple stab wounds, the coroner determined.

Sensing something was wrong when they saw hundreds of flies inside the window, neighbors called police on Sunday. When they arrived, they found Chidozie “Joe” Ojiaka, 51, dead. They said from the looks of it, he had been dead for weeks, possibly months.

Investigators had to wear white protective suits to collect evidence because of the gruesome condition of and odor in the house.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the crime to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS or the department at (913) 344-8769.

Ojiaka’s death is Overland Park’s fifth homicide of 2014.
