FERNDALE, Wash. (KCPQ) -- Investigators say that a 17-year-old babysitter along with her boyfriend and another male suspect orchestrated a fake home invasion to facilitate a robbery last week. The babysitter allegedly made up a story that two armed black men entered the home when police initially investigated the incident.
That story wasn't true, and nobody knew that more than four-year-old Abby, who the babysitter had been looking after.
"They told us to get out of the house cause they wanted to steal stuff," Abby told sister station KCPQ. "The bad guys stole my kitty bank, they stole my iPod."
At first police took Abby's neighbor Cody Oaks, a black man, into custody because he fit the babysitter's fictitious description. But police were assisted by Abby, who told them the suspects were white men, not black, which led police in a different direction.
The babysitter's story began to unravel and she reportedly confessed after Abby's version of the story exonerated her neighbor. The babysitter and her two male accomplices face robbery, burglary and perjury charges. As for Abby's belongings, there's good news to report.
"They got it back because of me being a superhero," Abby told KCPQ.
