Man killed his girlfriend’s 11-yr-old daughter, tried to stage it as a suicide, police say
MIAMI — Police in Miami arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion that he violently killed his girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter during the couple’s bad breakup.
Marta Guzman, 11, was found dead in her mother’s apartment in June, according to NBC in Miami.
Police believe Miguel Ruiz Lobo broke into his girlfriend’s apartment, encountered her daughter and began fighting with her. They think he killed her and then tried to make it look like a suicide.
They say he slashed the girl’s wrists so deeply that her hands almost came off. Investigators determined the cuts to her wrists were too deep for suicide.
Miami Police say they have surveillance video from a neighbor’s camera that shows Lobo leaving the apartment. According to police, he had fresh scratches to his arms and face and they say DNA from Marta’s fingernails matched Lobo’s.
He faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary.
“Anytime a child is killed, it’s shocking, especially when supposedly this individual loved the mother. How are you going to cause that type of pain to a woman by killing the daughter?” said Chief Manuel Orosa, Miami Police Dept.
