Decision looms as to whether the Chiefs will continue to hold camp in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – This is the final year the Kansas City Chiefs have a definite contract with Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for training camp. The next five years, they’ll have to have camp in Missouri, due to a contract with the state, but not necessarily St. Joe.

A lot of people visiting St. Joe for training camp told FOX 4 they wouldn’t be happy to see the Chiefs move- ever. They say they love going to St. Joe, it’s convenient, a quick trip, and they like the atmosphere. However, most fans FOX 4’s Abby Eden spoke with said they also would follow the Chiefs anywhere they went.

To them, it didn’t matter where in the state of Missouri, they’d have to go. Businesses in St. Joe, however, have a different feeling. Many have grown accustomed to the surge in activity, and it’s a source of pride and income for businesses in the Chiefs’ training camp home.

“It’s going to have a great impact, not only on our business, but on all the local businesses, All the local businesses support the Chiefs, we have all of our flags out, supporting them, so when they come through they can feel the support from all the local businesses,” said Jaclyn Wise, manager of the Rally House in St. Joe.

The manager of the Rally House in St. Joe says the buying department plans at least six months in advance for training camp at that store because it gets very busy.

So here’s the deal with Missouri Western: The Chiefs have five more one-year options to hold camp at the university. By December 1st a decision has to be made, will the Chiefs stay or not? A rep at Missouri Western says it seems the Chiefs have been happy there, but nothing is official yet.
