OLATHE, Kan. – Police evacuated an area grocery store, concerned that an armed man may be inside.

According to the Olathe Police Department, around 5 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a potential robbery at a Hen House Marketplace, located near 135th and Blackbob. Police arrived one minute later and contacted the cab driver and the passenger who was involved in the fight. The passenger said he was there to meet another person who was going to pay for his cab fare.

Witnesses reported that another male, possible armed, may be hiding inside the grocery store. Police evacuated all customers and employees from the Hen House and began searching the store for the man who was believed to be armed. He was not located.

Personnel from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and Kansas Highway Patrol were on the scene as well.

“Just the shopping area is closed off we're not letting anybody go into the scene right now, and officers are currently inside the store, and were going to check it thoroughly to make sure that person is not there. It's a big grocery store so it's going to take a little bit,” said Sargent Bryan Hill, of the Olathe Police Department.

Police continue their investigation.
