Car stuck on railroad overpass slowed traffic in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- An accident is under investigation after a man ran off of the road and landed on an overpass for trains Tuesday morning.

The car was heading west on Interstate 70 when it the car went off of the highway near Noland Road. A witness told police the vehicle went up a hill and became airborne. The car landed on an overpass for trains, right next to the tracks.

Police received a call about the accident around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found the man driving the vehicle to be conscious. Crews pulled the man from the car and  transported him to a hospital.

Police are looking into why the vehicle left the roadway.
