ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- One person is dead and another is injured after a man allegedly slammed his car into the garage door of a home to gain access inside early Saturday morning.

According to a press release from the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department, 34-year-old Daron Simpson turned himself in an hour after the shooting around 3:00 a.m. Simpson has been charged with second degree murder, and is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.

Authorities say the shooting happened at the home which sits in the 12000 block of SE State Highway A in Buchanan County.

Upon arrival, authorities found a garage door that appeared to have been struck. Inside, they found Andrew Clary, 36, dead from a gunshot wound. The other victim, 33-year-old Amanda Simpson, who neighbors say is the ex-wife of the suspect, was also shot while she was sleeping inside but is expected to survive.

FOX 4 spoke to a neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, who says she knows the victims and says Amanda Simpson is well-loved in the community and is a school nurse at nearby Mid-Buchanan Elementary School.

“We just want her to know that we're all praying for her and wishing her a speedy recovery from this if anybody can get through this I know that she can,” said the neighbor.

This neighbor tells FOX 4 that Amanda Simpson ran to another neighbor’s house minutes after the shooting for help. She says the entire street is saddened by the news.

“We really do just want the best for her and her children,” she said.
