TAMPA BAY — A cat in Florida is out of surgery and on the mend after being hit by a car, presumed dead and then buried.

Bart’s owner thought he was dead, said his goodbyes and buried him. Five days later Bart showed up at a neighbor’s house, hungry and in bad shape.

The neighbor took him back to his owner’s house, and she says the owner was in “complete shock.”

Bart is being treated at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s animal hospital. He has open wounds, a damaged eye and a broken jaw but is expected to recover.

On Tuesday, the Humane Society’s facebook page reported the following: “Bart The Miracle Cat has successful surgery! He was a brave boy and is now resting comfortably. He is spending the night with our good friends at Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service so he can be monitored. He will return to us in the morning and need a week or so to recover before going back home!”
