Early morning business fire causes thousands of dollars worth of damage

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Fire crews responded to reports of a fire at a business on the city's east side early Wednesday morning.

When crews arrived at Champs Blues and Jazz Bar, the business was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters fought through heavy smoke and fire to put it out.

Two people had been driving by 39th and Jackson just after 4 a.m. and saw flames shooting from the roof of the bar. The two called 911.

The fire caused  more than $50,000  of damage.

No one was inside at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.
